A Fun Washcloth

This is a simple project which could be knitted ~ a child with just a little help.

Choose a favorite color yarn. Cotton usually works best. I like 3 strands of 16/2 at tension 8.

Find a simple tuck pattern. An easy one is O X---O X --- X O--- X O for the four rows. Perhaps the young knitter could make a punchcard or input the pattern into the machine.

Cast on 70 stitches. Knit 3 rows plain, 4 rows of tuck, 3 rows plain. Then knit 100 rows of tuck. Finish with 3 rows plain, 4 rows of tuck, and 3 rows plain. Latch tool bind off.

Fold in half lengthwise, tuck sides together. Stitch the 2 sides up completely. Stitch the top partially, leaving an opening. Turn the cloth tuckside out. Insert pieces of soap into the opening. Whipstitch the opening closed.

When the soap is all gone, undo the opening and insert more soap.

~ making his or her own special cloth, maybe the young person will be a little more likely to wash behind those ears!
