Directions for Brother 930/Knitking III:
Tensions vary from machine tomachine, but once the pattern is tried you will see the adjustment to be made. The adjustment may be as minor as just one dot Tension change.

1. If you plan to isolate (1 design) - be sure to take off some MC yarn before beginning hat.

2. Bring into WP every needle L74-R74 (6 full 24st designs + 2sts on each side for seaming):
REMINDER!!! Select the design you want to use before starting to knit. If it is more than 24sts - multiply sts x 6 + 4 - that is the number of ndls to use. If you need more than 8sts reduce T by one dot. OR maybe use only five designs instead of six - at any rate try to stay close to 148 ndls.

3. With l x l tool, beginning with first ndl at left, pull EON to HP (E)
.
4. a. With MC yarn and starting with a slip knot on outside left ndl -e-wrap cast on HP ndls. Thread yarn into A feeder on carriage

5. Hang Cast-on Comb from behind onto e-wrap loops.

6. Set Tension dial to desired T (these tensions are for 2 strands of 2/24):
T-5.2 = Adult
T-5.0 = Teen-ager or Ladies
T-4.1 = Child
T-3.2 = Small Child

7. a. RCOOO.
b. Knit to RC..... BE CAREFUL NOT TO KNOCK CAST-ON COMB OFF LOOPS!!!
RC220 = Plain hat.
RC086 = Name in brim of hat.
RC169 = Design in top of hat only

8. RC220 - Hang hem on EON as follows:
a. With lxl tool (beginning with left ndl) pull EON to HP (E).
b. Hanging onto the bottom of the Cast-on Comb to keep it taut, put some weights (usually 3 closed closed claw weights) in the knitting.
c. Tipping the comb upward, but as not to lose the loops off the comb, hang the loops onto the HP (E) ndls.
d. Remove comb.
e. With beginning yarn - e-wrap (behind latches) 6 HP ndls at left (this eliminates tying yarn when hat is done).

9. Knit 2 rows.

10. Decrease EON as follows.
a. Machine turned OFF!!!
b. Using Lace Carriage (set on N) start at left side and go to the right (this brings needles to D position - note that the latches are held open by the sts, if they aren't the sts will drop when transferred).
c. Be sure outside ndls are in D position.
d. With lxl tool and starting with the lst ndl at the right push back EON to B position (L74 in B position also).
e. Use Lace Carriage from right to left. (this transfers sts to the left).
f. Put empty ndls out of work

11. a. T-4.0 - Knit I row
b. T-3.0 - Knit I row
c. T-2.0 - Knit I row
d. T-6.0 - Knit I row

12. a. Break yarn twice the width of hat plus 12 inches.
b. With double strand of yarn OR strong cord gather hat off with double-eyed ndl.

13. a. Tube and set stitches.
b. Fold brim up into place and set aside to seam later.

14. Sew together using the Mattress Stitch by picking up 2 bars between 2nd and 3rd stitches each side.
