Amy's Shawl

Eileen writes that this shawl came about due to a very cold July in 1987 and a small, cold baby with blonde hair and blue eyes. Sure sounds like a great warmer-upper to me!

Machine: These directions are for a standard gauge, but a bulky may also be used.

Yarn: Any 3-ply yarn or even 2/30s. Any lightweight yarn. Ordinary 4-ply is far too heavy.

Tension: Tension 7 for Mohair and Acrylics. Baby shawls may need to be a little tighter as they may get tiny fingers stuck.

Stitch Pattern: I use Stitchworld 282, but any tuck pattern or tuck-lace pattern will work.

E-wrap cast on 3 stitches and knit 2 rows. Set machine for pattern. *Increase stitch at each end of next 2 rows. Knit 2 rows.* Continue *.* until 200 stitches are on the machine. Cast off. 1 triangle made.

Make five more triangles. Join seams by picking up the end stitch every two rows and placing it on the last needle. This makes less bulk and the seam is almost invisible.

Finishing: With 3-prong tool, pick up 3 stitches and knit 6-8 rows. Pick up next 3 stitches, place on same needles, and repeat. Continue until all edges are completed.

Wash and press if needed. Fold in half and wear.

Stitch Pattern for punch cards and mylars. x=punched or black o=blank
