A Quick String Bag

This pattern has made its way through several clubs and guilds, so I'm not sure who originated it. Whoever did must have known how very useful it would be. It's a great bag to take to the beach or shopping. It comes in two sizes and is a great project for the midgauge or the bulky.

String Bag: Large size

Knit with Sugar and Cream cotton or any type of good cotton yarn

Gauge: Not important

Tension: About 5 on the Bulky, 8 or 9 on the midgauge

E-wrap cast on EON L34-R35. Knit 10 rows, hang hem. Knit 1 row at +3 tension. Put out of work needles into work and knit 100 rows on all needles. Drop every other needle as before. Rehang cast-on comb to mark row. Knit 10 rows on EON, hang hem. Knit 1 row at +3 tension. Bind off.

Pick up every other loop along one side. Knit 2 rows. Bind off. Repeat for other side.

Make I-Cord about 40-48 inches long and thread through 2 end hems. Join ends.

Ravel down all dropped stitches. (This part is really fun! Dropping stitches on purpose!)

String Bag: Small Size

Using same type of yarn and tension, e-wrap cast on EON L50-R51. Knit the same as the large bag but do not bring other needles into work. Work sides and I-cord the same.

This bag is smaller and denser. You don't get to unravel any stitches, but it makes a nice bag for smaller items that might fall out of the large bag.
